Working on this wiki-site (Notes for AP European History Students)

Page history last edited by Peter H. Bond 14 years, 1 month ago

You have been sent an invitation to set up an account – and become a “writer” for this wiki-site.

Being a “writer” gives you access to my site and, much like wikipedia, you are able to edit and change files.

I found the process of using pbwiki to be:

(a) exciting; and,

(b) somewhat time consuming, in the beginning.

Once I got the hang of how the site works, I was able to set files and pages up very quickly.  Based upon how much more technology experience most of you have, it is my guess that you (and your fellow group members) will find the site much more easy to use – and master.  Either way, don’t be shy about asking questions.  I am no expert, but I am getting “the hang of it”.  So can you.

Towards that end, we will start the use of this site with our first major group project:  the Chapter Summary and Commentary project (Chps. 26 - 29).  This assignment is already posted; others will be posted as they are assigned.

In any case, the expectation is that you (and the others in your group) will use the site to produce a professional, accurate ‘finished product’.  You may include links, create other pages (as necessary), and, in general, follow any reasonable intellectual and/or creative path to better complete the assignment.

Please understand how the wiki-site works:

(a)    any and all changes are logged in, on-site, according to the user who made them (as registered via your log-in and password);

(b)    no change is permanent – you can always go back to a previous version of your group’s work if you wish.

(c)    there is a record of how much time each of you spends on-site, working (again, as registered via your log-in and password);

(d)    as the editor-in-chief of the entire site, I am notified of all changes you make to your site – and have access to all the records mentioned, above (and thus can help you fix problems if for some reason you have any trouble);

(e)    you have access, as a result of being invited to be a “writer” to all pages on the site – but you are asked only to edit pages which are part of your group’s assignment…which means you must pay attention to links and make sure you are, in fact, on your page.

I do ask that all of you adhere to two important rules (despite the fact that all changes can be ‘fixed’, if necessary):

(a)    Don't tinker with the frame-work and wording of the site itself (that is, the parts which are mine - and the result of my work);

(b)    Don't tinker with the work of OTHER GROUPS - or OTHER CLASSES.
